Last Day Tasks: Remedy Inventory & Relaxation
Saturday, June 30, 2012
Another beautiful day is almost over and our trip is ending too, as Ruja and I head for the airport tomorrow morning.
This morning we inventoried the pharmacy of homeopathic remedies that have been generously donated by homeopathic pharmacies in the United States and even India. We marked all the remedies that were running low so they could be restocked during the next trip.
It was gracious of our organizer, Holly Manoogian, to arrange an afternoon trip to downtown Port au Prince for us. Our trip started with a delicious lunch at the local Hotel Kinam, overlooking the pool and surrounded by different colored flowers. Some of us tasted Haitian white fish and the pickled hot peppers.
After a stop at a local store, where most of the stuff was from China & India, we drove to the GranMache (grand market), a huge green metal building known for its Artisan work and souvenirs. We bought a couple of little souvenirs and even braved our way through the Voodoo section of the market. We passed by the old Palace and other devastated buildings still standing in total ruins as a reminder of the earthquake. We saw the statue of Madame Colot, a first Haitian woman, in the middle of a square and then came back to our base ready for the great food they prepare for us every day. At the guest house I enjoyed a brief shower with running water—most of Haiti does not have this privilege.
It was a great experience being able to help people and plant seeds of education. As a new homeopath, it was a great opportunity to practice our new skills, learn more and support HWB in bringing homeopathy to Haiti. We go home grateful for this gift of service that we were allowed to give.
