Mosquito-borne Diseases
Homeopathy has a long history of treating epidemics for which there are no known cures. In particular, homeopathy has showed promising results in the treatment of symptoms associated with Zika, Dengue, West Nile and Chicungunya, all prevalent in the Caribbean and North America. HWB's work in Haiti with the Chikungunya virus has produced positive results. "The lack of immunity among people living in the Americas provided a blank canvas for Chikungunya to spread throughout the population…” (CNN News) |

HWB is excited to report that the 2014-2015 research study on the effectiveness of homeopathy in the treatment of chronic Chikungunya has been published in the noted American Journal of Homeopathic Medicine.
Joyce Frye, DO, James O'Keefe, Lauren Fox, FNP-BC, CCH, Holly Manoogian, CCH, Dr. Joseph Prosper, MD, and Mhaidjiv Legerme authored the study. "Individualized Homeopathy Reduces Symptoms of Chronic Chikungunya in Haiti: A Pilot Data-Collection Project," was published in the Spring 2019 e-issue of the American Journal of Homeopathic Medicine, Volume 112, Number 2. HWB Chronic Chikungunya Pilot Observational Study
Chikungunya, a mosquito borne virus common in Africa and Asia, was first identified in the Caribbean in December 2013. HWB’s pilot study (under the direction of HWB's Clinical Director Lauren Fox, FNP, BC, CCH and Joyce Frye DO, MBA, MSCE) using Homeopathy in cases of Chronic Chikungunya began in March 2015. The findings of this observational study were recently published in the "American Journal of Homeopathy." To read the entire research paper, click here.
Four sites were chosen for clinics--L’estere, Delmas 33, Jacquet Toto and Jalouzi. Altogether over 3 days of clinic, 171 people reporting symptoms of chronic Chikungunya were seen by HWB staff and Dr. Joseph Prosper.
At the first follow-up 2 weeks later, information collected in the study indicated that nearly 80 percent of the 104 patients who came to follow-up appointments felt “a little” or “much better” since homeopathic treatment. Follow-ups continued at 4 week intervals with the most recent ones conducted in July 2015.
HWB volunteer, Shelly Clevidence, ND, reported in July 2015, “…Many of these people had been suffering with chronic Chikungunya for 6 months or more before being treated with homeopathy. Often, their symptoms would begin to resolve within two weeks of taking a homeopathic remedy. They have been able to return to their activities of daily living without the severe joint pain Chikungunya had inflicted on them.”

Zika Fever Positively Identified in Haiti
January 17, 2016
Another newly arrived mosquito-borne virus has been detected in Haiti. Dr. Florence D. Guillaume, the Minister officially confirms the presence of Zika virus in Haiti stating that "Wednesday, January 6, 2016, the Ministry of Public Health and Population (MSPP) has submitted to Caribbean Public Heath Agency (CARPHA) based in Trinidad and Tobago, 11 new blood samples, 5 of them were positive by the method RT-PCR on 14 January 2016. Among the confirmed cases, 4 were from the commune of Delmas and one from the commune of Pétion-ville. Thus, the MSPP certify the presence of the Zika in Haiti." The clinical syndrome is known as Zika fever. Its clinical manifestation is often similar to dengue, also a mosquito-borne illness. The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO/WHO) states that there are no antivirals against the Zika and treatment is based solely on managing symptoms.
